Step 1: Install Parallels Desktop Lite from the Mac App Store. I also have not successsfully installed a High Sierra guest anywhere. Note that you can’t virtualize OS versions that aren’t natively compatible. So let’s start there, with virtualizing Sierra on top of High Sierra. (A clause explicitly permitting virtualization on a Mac host first appears in the SLA of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.) Many posts online detail these, but they’re out of date and no longer work.Īs I write this, 10.13 High Sierra is the newest version of macOS, and 10.12 Sierra is the next most recent. What’s a more recent development is being able to easily virtualize macOS without engaging in legally questionable maneuvers. Luckily, there’s a solution that’s inexpensive on both the cost and time dimensions: virtualizing macOS on top of your existing machine. The cost only increases if you’re trying to diagnose an issue towards the tail end of a procedure. ![]() It’s not cost-effective to have spare developer-grade machines lying around just to test installation procedures, nor is it time-effective to be wiping and rebuilding machines either. How do we agree on anything? The obvious answer is that a fresh OS install on a specific type of machine is our common starting point - it’s a fixed point in time. But if all our machines are unique and acquire crud and customizations over time, there are bound to be disagreements: along the lines of “that works on my machine”, and “well not on my machine”. We need robust documentation and scripts to make that happen smoothly. So as developers, we still spend a decent portion of our daily life outside of containers. Containerization technology like Docker is a huge help here, and we use Docker at Rally for many tasks. Builds that are reliable and reproducible are a great thing. ![]()

All iPhones have a built-in GPS.ĭo I need an Internet connection for it to work? They all cost about $99 and use Bluetooth to wireless communicate with your iPad. That said, even the built-in GPS isn't very good, so we very strongly suggest using an inexpensive external WAAS GPS such as the Dual XGPS 150 or 160, the Garmin GLO, or the Bad Elf. iPads with just Wi-Fi (no cellular) do not have a built-in GPS while the cellular-enabled models do (no cellular subscription is required). ![]() However, if you plan to use the moving map features of the app, a GPS is required. Some features, such as airport information, approach plates, and weather have little or nothing to do with your current location so no GPS is needed. In other words, from an operational point of view, FlyQ EFB works well with a Garmin GTX 345 so long as you also have some other inexpensive ADS-B In receiver. The fact that the data is received by a Merlin, Stratux, or some other ADS-B In rather than the In provided by the Garmin is not relevant. In fact, adding any ADS-B Out - Garmin or otherwise - makes any ADS-B In system work beautifully because the presence of an ADS-B Out transmitter tells the ground station to broadcast all traffic relevant to you. Hence, adding an inexpensive portable ADS-B In system like a Merlin (or Stratux, Dual, iLevil, or whatever you already have) to a Garmin GTX 345 installation will work great to provide weather and traffic to FlyQ. ADS-B Out is basically just a transponder on steroids that sends your tailnumber and position to the ground station - your current transponder doesn't talk to your iPad now, does it? The goodies for you, weather and traffic, are both provided by the ADS-B In system. Click to read a more detailed explanation.įirst, it's important to understand that an ADS-B Out system does not need to talk to the iPad/iPhone as ADS-B Out does not send weather and traffic only ADS-B In does that and the two do not need to be linked in any way. In a nutshell, adding an inexpensive ADS-B receiver, such as our $249 Merlin unit, provides essentially the same functionality as using an app that talks directly to the 345. Go to the App Store app on your iPhone or iPad and download by searching for "FlyQ EFB." While Disney normally does a good job with their English dubs of these films, this is one of the only exceptions in which it makes for a much worse product. Having watched it a second time for this piece, in its original Japanese, I not only enjoyed the film a great deal more, I noticed a ton more details in the story and dialogue that I either ignored or simply wrote off in the English version. That’s how I watched The Secret World of Arietty when I first saw it two years ago, and I found it to be one of the Studio’s lesser entries. ![]() It’s strange how much of a difference an English dub can make. ![]() ![]() ![]() It made closing the distance on your enemy and chasing up combos okay differently than Mortal Kombat X. Mortal Kombat 11 is more deliberately paced than its 20 predecessors. It all comes down to the speed of the game. E = Copy Subfolders, including Empty Subfolders MIR = Copy Subfolders, including Empty Subfolders and delete all folders from destination not in source So the question is how can we replicate the three SyncToy options in Robocopy. So in our case we had a relatively small external hard drive and a large network drive where the data from all external sites was deposited. The good thing about using contribute is that your source and destination don't have to match as SyncToy will only take new or updated files from the source and move them to the destination. We synchronised the external hard drive with the network location when we get back to base. When back at base we have a folder on the network that is used to store all the data from all sites. They did this by using an external hard drive and copying files from the external location to the external drive. We have used the contribute method at work where one of the departments was going out to gather information from a number of off site locations. This again is one way synchronisation but no deletes are carried through to the destination folder. ![]() You could think of this as option as a one way mirror operation. This is one way synchronisation where new, updated and deleted files on the source are propergated to the destination folder. Use this with care as you can delete a lot of files very quickly when using this method. This is a two way synchronise where new, updated and deleted files are propergated to the source and destination folders. There are 3 options that you have in SyncToy 2.0 for synchronising folders. Ideally I want to have the power of Robocopy with the ease of use of SyncToy. It has lots of options that you can play with and doesn't add extra files to source or destination, it is very fast, but it isn't very user friendly. Robocopy is a very powerful synchronisation program. The best thing about SyncToys is the GUI and how easy it is to setup folder pairs. dat files to the source and destination folders which sometimes isn't desirable. I really like the easy of use of SyncToy but sometimes it doesn't sync files for unknown reasons.
